SPAN Project
SPAN is a project of the MET aiming to improve park management in Namibia. This in turn is expected to significantly contribute to the national and local economy through park tourism. It is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The 6-year project will begin in January 2006 and will tackle park management issues at three levels:
- Improve national policy and planning for better park management for conservation ;
- Improve MET’s institutional capacity
- Drastically improve site-level management of 4 demonstration PA sites – Bwabwata- Mamili-Mudumu (BMM) complex, the Etosha-Skeleton Coast Link, the Ai-Ais Hotspring Park and the new Sperrgebiet National Park.
