Strengthening the Protected Area Network (SPAN) Project is a Namibian 6-year project officially started in 2006. It is a project of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), and housed within the Directorate of Parks and Wildlife Management. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). more
The Sperrgebiet National Park (SNP) covering some 26 000 km² in the south-western corner of Namibia is the newest addition to Namibia’s protected area (PA) estate. SNP is the second largest protected area after the Namib-Naukluft Park and adds another three percent to the current PA coverage in Namibia.
